A prestart isn’t a standalone legal document — it’s a supporting control that helps discharge the general risk-management duty and primary duty of care under the WHS Act. That’s why it’s quick and repeatable rather than a full statutory sign-off like a SWMS, but still capable of flagging a new hazard that triggers a SWMS revision.

Completing a Prestart Check

The Prestart creation page guides workers through a series of essential safety checks.

This process typically includes:

• Confirming fitness for work
• Reviewing relevant SWMS
• Identifying any new hazards in the work area
• Checking tools and equipment

Workers must complete this form and sign off before commencing work.

Reviewing Prestart Records

Site supervisors and safety officers can review completed prestarts via the detail page. This provides visibility into who has completed their checks and any issues that were flagged during the process.
